Track Record: After two seasons at Daytona State (Fla.) JC, Hardin transferred to Mississippi State, where he had a 12.81 ERA in 19.2 innings of relief in 2023. He was better in 2024 with a 3.22 ERA in 36.1 innings—though he still struggled with control—but the Brewers were intrigued by the way he moved on the mound and his pitch traits to draft him in the 12th round and sign him for $147,500. Hardin took a huge leap forward in 2025. Moved to a starting role, Hardin threw more strikes, finished the year in Double-A Biloxi—though he missed six weeks in July and August with arm fatigue—and won the organization’s pitcher of the year award.
Scouting Report: Hardin’s stuff in pro ball in 2025 was similar to what it was in college, but his pitch usage and control changed. He threw 65% fastballs at Mississippi State, but he dropped that to 45% in 2025 and ramped up the frequency of his slider and cutter. He throws a mix of four-seam and two-seam fastballs, sitting at 92-95 mph and touching 97, and it’s a pitch that plays up from his lower release height with good extension. His sweeping slider is an above-average pitch that spins at 2,400-2,500 rpm with 12 inches of lateral break to miss bats. His upper-80s cutter is an average pitch that gives him another wrinkle that he can use against righties or lefties, especially since his firm changeup is a below-average pitch he doesn’t use often. Hardin walked 13.9% of batters his draft year in college, but in 2025 he posted a 4.3% walk rate, pounding the zone especially with his fastball and cutter.
The Future: Hardin looks like a late-round gem for the Brewers. If he can repeat his 2025 success and prove his durability in a starter role, he has a chance to develop into a No. 3 or 4 starter with the possibility of making his major league debut by the end of 2026.
