Shafer is a 6-foot-8, 240-pound righthander and redshirt junior who missed the 2022 season with injury but has spent each of the past two seasons as a reliable strike-throwing starter for UNC Wilmington. Shafer sits in the 91-93 mph range with a fastball that touches 96 and uses a low-80s slider as his primary secondary, though he will mix in a harder cutter in the upper 80s and throw an occasional changeup as well.
