Villani is a 6-foot-2, 210-pound righthander who started his career at Santa Clara, then moved to Palomar (Calif.) JC for his 2023 season before pitching at the back of Long Beach State’s bullpen this spring. He posted a 3.96 ERA over 25 innings with a 27.4% strikeout rate and 10.4% walk rate and then pitched in the Cape Cod League for Cotuit after the season. Villani is a fastball-dominant pitcher who averaged 94-95 mph with a heater that has been up to 97-98 and could give him a legitimate plus offering. He used the pitch more than 80% of the time this spring and did a nice job establishing the pitch in the zone for strikes, though his secondaries and feel for spin overall are questionable. He could fit as a day three reliever target.
