Murphy positioned himself early as one of the top names to watch in southern California after a huge freshman season at Corona (Calif.) HS in 2023 in which he hit six home runs before following it up with big seasons again in 2024 and 2025 for the national powerhouse program. He’s an athletic outfielder with a mix of power and a tick above-average speed. There are some unconventional parts to his swing and it’s an aggressive approach he will have to reign in to stay within the strike zone and cut down on swing-and-miss, so it’s a likely power-over-hit offensive game. Murphy is an above-average runner and moves well enough to get a chance to develop in center field, though his plus arm would fit in right field.
