Hanes spent 2023 pitching as a member of the 2027 class, but at the end of the year, he reclassified to 2026. He’s 6-foot-4 with a long arm swing in the back to throw a fastball that reaches 94 mph with riding life and more velocity to come. He will flash feel for a low-80s slider that has high spin at 2,700-3,000 rpm, showing the traits to become a more consistent swing-and-miss pitch with more development. It’s mostly a two-pitch attack for Hanes, who throws an occasional changeup. There are times when his control has escaped him, but he has done a good job limiting walks early this summer.
