Age At Draft: 21.1
Mayers is a 6-foot-5, 220-pound righthander with huge stuff that he struggles to fully harness. He pitched as an effectively-wild starter with Nicholls State for two seasons and then transferred to LSU in 2025, where he pitched out of the bullpen and posted a 4.80 ERA over 15 innings with a 36.1% strikeout rate but a ghastly 27.8% walk rate. Mayers’ control is truly bottom of the scale currently, but teams could still be enamored with him because he brings outlier stuff to the table. He averages 96-97 mph with his fastball from a high three-quarters slot and has run the pitch up to 102 mph this spring. In addition to huge velocity, Mayers also averaged nearly 23 inches in induced vertical break—an extreme figure and some of the best riding life of any fastball in the country. That led to a huge 42% miss rate with the pitch this spring, but Mayers threw strikes only 53% of the time. He pitches heavily off the fastball but also throws a hard 88-91 mph slider and a changeup around 90 mph. Mayers has the stuff to miss bats at any level, but he needs to make serious strides with his strikes.

Mayers immediately contributed as a member of the weekend rotation in 2023 and 2024 with Nicholls State. While his stuff is big, his ERA ballooned to 4.58 due in large part to the 76 walks he issued across 70.2 innings. Mayers relies heavily on a 93-96 mph fastball that has been up to 97 and averaged over 24 inches of ride. Mayers’ slider has shown promise in its limited usage and could be a plus pitch down the road. He transferred to LSU for the 2025 season, where he should pitch out of the bullpen and attempt to develop his secondaries and sharpen his control.
