Age At Draft: 19.2
Mershon is an athletic catcher and outfielder with a strong, wide-shouldered frame at 6-foot-2, 195 pounds that still has room for added strength. He’s old for the class and will be 19 on draft day, but he’s been a consistent offensive performer throughout his high school career. He has a wide stance and keeps his weight on his back side through his load with a compact swing geared to lift the ball. While the swing has some moving parts, Mershon has always shown impressive rhythm and balance, with a clean bat path that leads to lots of hard contact with above-average power potential. Mershon is a plus runner who will need to improve as a receiver and thrower to stick at catcher, but his athleticism and speed give him a fine fallback in the outfield. His older brother, David, was an 18th round pick by the Angels out of Mississippi State in 2024. Mershon is committed to Mississippi State. -
School: Eastside HS, Taylors, S.C. Committed: Mississippi State
Age At Draft: 19.2
Mershon is the younger brother of infielder David Mershon, who the Angels drafted in the 18th round out of Mississippi State in 2024, with Peter offering an impressive mix of hitting ability and athleticism. On the older end of the 2025 class, Mershon has been one of the top and most consistent offensive performers on the travel circuit the last couple years. He keeps his weight on his back side with a short righthanded swing geared to lift the ball. It’s a swing with good rhythm that’s typically in sync and on time with a good hand path, leading to consistent hard contact on the barrel. He regularly strings together quality at-bats with a low swing-and-miss rate, extra-base damage and the potential for 20-25 home runs. Mershon’s athleticism helps him at catcher, but scouts aren’t sure if he has the arm strength or defensive polish to stick behind the plate at higher levels. He’s a legitimate plus runner, so while he should continue to develop at catcher, his wheels and athleticism play well in the outfield.
