Ellis was named the first captain in Florida Gulf Coast baseball history this spring in his fourth year with the program. A 6-foot-2, 190-pound center fielder, Ellis has impressive strike zone discipline and bat-to-ball skills to go along with solid up the middle defense. He’s quite old for the class and will turn 24 in November but is a career .359/.498/.504 hitter with more walks (97) than strikeouts (85) with FGCU. Despite a career-high in home runs this spring (6), Ellis has very little power or leverage as a hitter and will need to drive value with his contact ability and on-base skill. He also has drastic platoon splits for his career, but as a lefthanded hitter his splits are at least towards the strong side. Ellis doesn’t have much in the way of upside but has high floor skills and could be a quality money saving senior sign among the top 10 rounds.
