Brumbaugh is a standout two-way player and his father, Cliff, reached the big leagues with the Rangers and Rockies in 2001. Carson has real upside on both sides of the baseball. Some scouts prefer the 6-foot-2, 195-pound Oklahoma product as a shortstop while others are enamored with his righthanded pitching ability. It sounds like Brumbaugh himself leans toward hitting. He has a big league swing with outstanding bat speed that leads to plenty of power upside, though it has come with a higher swing-and-miss rate. Brumbaugh’s hand load features some movement with a distinct press back and a separate move down, which could inhibit his timing and contact quality. Brumbaugh has solid hands and more than enough arm strength to stick at shortstop, but he might outgrow the position in the future and fit better at third base. He’s an average runner. On the mound, Brumbaugh has impressive arm speed and a fastball that has been up to 96 mph. He has also flashed a solid low-80s slider and a firm upper-80s changeup. His delivery looks a bit relieverish with plenty of effort and a notable head whack in his finish. Brumbaugh is committed to Arkansas but fits in the first five rounds of the draft.

Brumbaugh can dial up his fastball with some of the best velocity in the class. He’s an athletic righthander who can reach 96 mph, generating good armside run on his fastball from his low three-quarters slot. His excellent arm speed is evident on his fastball and his slider, which he throws in the low 80s with spin in the 2,100-2,400 rpm range, using it effectively to righthanded hitters by starting it on the outer third before it breaks off to induce whiffs and chase. Brumbaugh throws a firm changeup in the upper 80s, though it’s not a big part of his repertoire right now. Yet some scouts prefer Brumbaugh as a position player. He has outstanding bat speed, making hard contact now with significantly more power projection given how he’s able to whip the barrel through the zone, though it does come with a higher swing-and-miss rate. Brumbaugh is a solid-average runner with a plus arm from shortstop.
