Age At Draft: 19.3
Johnson is an undersized outfielder and lefthanded hitter who stands out for his plate skills and baseball IQ. Listed at 5-foot-9, 170 pounds, he has a small zone and uses that to his advantage, with a patient and selective approach as well as a crouched stance that makes an already-small zone even smaller. He has strong bat-to-ball skills and rarely swings and misses. He’s not a true burner, but will turn in plus run times and has a chance to stick in center field with improved defensive ability. Some scouts think he’s a risk to move to left field, where his size and limited power would be more of a concern. Johnson is committed to NC State and will be 19 on draft day, making him a draft-eligible sophomore if he makes it to campus. -

Johnson has an outstanding baseball IQ that is evident in everything he does on the field. He has a shorter frame that he uses to his advantage, with a small strike zone that he doesn’t expand much thanks to his patient approach. He will bar his arm at times but is a selective, high-contact hitter with one of the lowest swing-and-miss rates in the class, enabling him to get on base at a high clip with a line-drive approach and gap power. He’s a plus runner with strong defensive instincts, reading the ball well off the bat with efficient routes and good range.
