Barrientes is a young-for-the-class righthander who will be 17 on draft day and has excellent natural ability to spin the baseball. At 6-foot-1, 190 pounds, Barrientes isn’t a super imposing look on the mound, but his velocity has trended in the right direction. After topping out at 93 mph on the 2024 travel circuit, Barrientes touched 95 mph this spring in his senior season. His loudest pitch is a high-spin slider with spin rates up to 2,800 rpm and velocity in the 82-85 mph range. It has real plus potential. Barrientes will also mix in a low-80s changeup and a 12-to-6 curveball in the upper 70s with distinct shape from his slider, though he has mostly pitched off the fastball/slider combo.
