Stevie Emanuels
Name: Stephen Patrick Emanuels
Born: Jan 30, 1999 in Seattle, WA
High School: Washington
College: Washington
Ht.: 6'5" / Wt.: 210 lbs
Bats: R / Throws: R
Drafted in the 5th round (157th overall) by the Oakland Athletics in 2020 (signed for $400,000)
Emanuels set a Washington freshman record for appearances when he appeared in 34 games out of the bullpen in 2018, and he followed up with a dominant relief showing as a sophomore. He both started and worked in long relief during a successful stint in the Cape Cod League last summer, then transitioned to a full-time starting role with the Huskies this spring. Emanuels became the talk of Northwest area scouts and crosscheckers before the 2020 season was canceled, posting a 0.79 ERA with 38 strikeouts and nine walks in 22.2 innings. Emanuels is a big 6-foot-5, 210-pound righthander with a fastball that sits 91-93 mph and touches 95-96. His fastball is too straight at times, so he's tinkered with a two-seamer to try and avoid barrels. Emanuel's slider is a potential plus pitch. It's high spin-rate breaking ball he dials up and down from 77-85 mph and can blend into more of a curveball at times. Whatever speed he throws it at, it has the spin and shape to be an out pitch. Emanuels also flashes an average changeup, though he doesn't throw it often. With three pitches, a solid physical frame and a history of thwoing strikes, most scouts believe Emanuels can handle a starting role, although his limited track record as a starter isn't ideal. Most everyone appreciates the steady progress he’s made over his collegiate career and has him in draft consideration.
