Drafted in the 4th round (129th overall) by the New York Yankees in 2020 (signed for $600,000)
The top junior college prospect in a fairly deep class at the level, Way is a 6-foot-4, 200-pound righthander who showed excellent stuff in the Cape Cod League last summer. He struck out 18 batters in 13.2 innings and posted a 3.29 ERA, showing enough for some evaluators put him in the second-to-third-round range on his summer look alone. Way continued to impress this spring at Northwest Florida JC, showing improved control and a solid fastball/changeup combination. Way's fastball comfortably sits in 92-94 mph range and will get up to 96-97 mph. He creates uncomfortable at-bats with his ability to spot his fastball in all four quadrants of the zone. Just when batters adjust to his fastball, he disrupts their timing with a plus changeup that features exceptional tumbling action. Way’s slider is more inconsistent than his fastball and changeup, but it shows flashes of being an average third offering. With two plus pitches, a good frame and above-average control, Way has put himself in position to be drafted in the second round or slightly after.
