Stanavich went to Marshall in 2018, where he didn’t play in a redshirt year before playing at Herkimer (N.Y.) JC in 2019. After the pandemic wiped out the 2020 season, Stanavich spent 2021 and 2022 as a reliever for Rutgers. That unusual path means he’s already 23, but he has been impressive as the closer for the Scarlet Knights with a 2.10 ERA and a 51-9 K-BB mark in 34.1 innings this spring. At 5-foot-11, Stanavich isn’t that big, but he’s a solid strike-thrower with his fastball, which generally sat around 90-92 mph. In bigger games, Stanavich has shown another gear to his fastball, cranking it to 92-94 mph and getting up to 95. He’s primarily a two-pitch guy, mixing in a slider that flashes as a solid-average pitch, using it effectively to the back foot of righties when it’s at his best. He’s older and strictly a relief prospect, but a team could take him on Day 2 as a money-saving senior signing, though Day 3 or as a nondrafted free agent fit more on talent.
