Lawson didn’t play at all as a freshman at Tennessee in 2020 and barely played in 2021. But he stepped into a massive role in 2022, as he became the everyday shortstop for a Tennessee team that was No. 1 in the country for most of the year. A well-rounded shortstop, Lawson doesn’t have loud tools, but he was a very reliable cog on the No. 1 team in the country for much of the year. Lawson struggled in conference play (.210/.344/.370), but hit .269/.402/.512 overall. Other than below-average power, scouts see a lot of 45s and 50s on his scouting report. He’s a consistent defender at shortstop, he is an average runner and he has an average arm.
