Melton's profile as a righthanded-hitting first baseman is one that scouts shy away from, but he does have the above-average power demanded of the position. Defensively he is surprisingly nimble, making some highlight plays at first base this year. He's toyed with third base in the past to try to take advantage of his plus arm, but he doesn't have the range to play over there. His arm is good enough that he may have a fallback option on the mound.
