Listed at 6-foot-1, 175 pounds, Layer is a speedy, athletic outfielder. He is a plus runner and does a good job of using his speed both in the field and in the batter's box. Layer has a solid approach at the plate, but will need to learn to be more disciplined when facing quality offspeed stuff out of the zone. He shows some power, and should be able to add more as he physically matures. His speed is a big asset in the outfield and he should be able to become a solid defensive center fielder. Layer is committed to Broward (Fla.) CC.
