Track Record: Campana is the younger brother of Marino Campana, a 21-year-old corner outfielder with the Red Sox who spent the 2018 season with low Class A Greenville. Campana hit well at the COPABE U-15 Pan American Championships in Colombia, where he batted .364 (8-for-22) with two home runs, three walks and two strikeouts. The Pirates signed him for $500,000.
Scouting Report: Campana has a prototype build for center field, with a lean, athletic frame and room to add considerable strength. He has quick-burst actions, gliding around center field with plus speed and a good gait, though his arm is below-average. Campana's twitchiness shows in his fast hands and bat speed, with a compact stroke and gap power that could become average or better with physical maturity. Campana has certain attributes that suggest he should be a good hitter, though his offensive performance went on a bit of a roller coaster as an amateur, mixing productive at-bats with a lot of strikeouts at times.
The Future: With a chance to hit and stay at a premium position, Campana is one of the organization's most intriguing sleepers at the lower levels. He will likely debut in the Dominican Summer League.
