An undersized, 5-foot-10, 176-pound lefthander, Metzdorf posted his best season as a senior with Boston College this spring, with a 2.30 ERA and 72 strikeouts in 82.1 innings of work. Metzdorf's stuff isn't huge, but he's a solid strike thrower and has a fastball that sits 86-89 mostly, though he did ratchet that up to 93 late in the season. His slider and changeup are both fringe-average pitches at best.
