View Draft Report
Williamson emerged as N.C. State's top draft prospect with a strong junior season, after the New Jersey prep product struggled as a sophomore, falling out of the rotation. Command is the struggle for Williamson, because all his pitches have life. At his best, he attacks hitters with an 89-93 mph fastball, though triceps tendinitis took a bite out of that top-end velocity late in the season. His breaking ball, a slider with depth in the low-80s, is his best pitch, earning above-average to plus grades, and his changeup also flashes above-average if not better. At 6-foot-3, 220-pounds, Williamson has excellent size but hasn't been able to stay healthy or throw enough strikes to profile as a starter long-term. He's a better fit in the bullpen.
