Brazoban, Weeden In Brown Deal

December 12, 2003

Baseball America’s Josh Boyd reports that righthanders Yhency Brazoban and Brandon Weeden are the two Yankees prospects to be included in the pending Kevin Brown-Jeff Weaver trade with the Dodgers.

Brazoban, a 23-year-old converted outfielder who throws in the mid-90s, has advanced rapidly since changing positions, reaching Double-A midway through 2003. As a pitcher, he has gone 2-4, 5.23 with 69 strikeouts and 31 walks in 65 innings.

Weeden, 20, has moved slowly since being selected in the second round of the 2002 draft. After starting 2003 in the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League, where he went 2-1, 1.73 in 26 innings, he earned a promotion to short-season Staten Island, where he finished 0-2, 3.72 in 19 innings. He has the makings of a good delivery, and scouts believe there’s projection to his 89-92 mph four-seam fastball.

We’ll have full analysis of the deal once it is official in Trade Central.
