White Sox Promote Marcus Semien To Triple-A

The White Sox are promoting infielder Marcus Semien, the Double-A Southern League leader in on-base percentage, to Triple-A Charlotte.

Semien has drawn praise around the SL this year for his strike-zone judgment and polished hitting approach. A 22-year-old righthanded hitter, Semien has hit .290/.420/.483 with more walks (84) than strikeouts (66) and 15 home runs in 484 plate appearances this year while splitting time between shortstop, second base and third base.

When the White Sox drafted Semien as a sixth-round pick out of California two years ago, scouts were skeptical about whether he would hit enough to be an everyday player in the big leagues, but he’s improved his hitting every year in pro ball to become one of Chicago’s top prospects.
