Elizabethton pitcher Dan Osterbrock (Twins) had his sixth-consecutive quality start last night against Princeton (Rays). The 6-foot-3 lefthander out of Cincinnati went 7 1/3 innings and gave up two runs on seven hits. He didn’t walk anyone and struck out 10–his fifth double-digit strikeout performance in his first 12 appearances as a professional. Osterbrock is now 7-2 with a 3.08 ERA and 100 strikeouts and just eight walks over 73 innings.

Prospect Nuggets

Fans surely got their money’s worth at the Elizabethton vs. Princeton game. While Elizabethton’s starter, Dan Osterbrock, was Prospect Of The Day, Princeton starter Matt Moore (Rays) got plenty of consideration. Moore threw five scoreless innings, giving up just one hit while walking two and striking out nine. The 19-year-old lefthander has the best strikeout rate in the Appalachian League. . . Elizabethton first baseman Jonathan Waltenbury jacked two home runs, giving him 10 on the season. Waltenbury is a 6-foot-4 Canadian that hits from the left side. He’s hitting .329/.393/.564 over 243 at-bats. . . Rangers prospect Max Ramirez was on a rehab assignment with the AZL Rangers and he went 2-for-2 with a double. . . Odgen right fielder Kyle Russell went 2-for-4 with his 12th double and fifth triple on the season. . . GCL Blue Jays third baseman Balbino Fuenmayor stayed hot in the first game of a double-header against the GCL Braves, going 2-for-4, giving him nine hits over his past five games. Fuenmayor cooled off in the second game, however, going hitless in three at-bats. . . Yankees seventh-round pick, catcher Kyle Higashioka, has transitioned well so far into professional baseball. Last night he went 1-for-3 with his first home run and he’s now hitting .313/.371/.438 over his first 34 at-bats. . . GCL Twins center fielder Aaron Hicks has now hit safely in his past nine games. Last night he went 2-for-5, raising his average to .306 on the season. . . Kingsport third baseman Stefan Welch (Mets) went 2-for-4 with a triple (7) and a home run (4). The big Australian is hitting .278/.313/.447 on the season. . . GCL Pirates third baseman Jarek Cunningham knocked his fourth home run of the season as he went 1-for-2 with two walks. . . Idaho Falls shortstop J.D. Alfaro went 3-for-4 with his 18th double and eighth home run, driving in three runs in Idaho Falls’ 11-1 walloping of Billings (Reds). . . Bristol starter Steven Upchurch (White Sox) threw seven strong innings, giving up just four hits and one unearned run while striking out five. He’s now 2-1 with a 1.38 ERA on the season. . . GCL Tigers lefty Jade Todd threw five no-hit innings with five strikeouts against the GCL Yankees. The seventh-round draft pick is now 2-1 with a 2.58 ERA over his first 11 games.

Seventeen-year-old Jason McEachern (Rays) takes the mound for Princeton at home against Johnson City (Cardinals). McEachern was the Rays’ 13th-round pick this year out of St. Stephens High in Hickory, N.C.
