Prospect Notebook: Hunter Renfroe Stars At NWL All-Star Game

Northwest League All-Star Game

Southern Division 8, Northern Division 7
Tuesday, Aug. 6
Everett, Wash. (Mariners)

The short-season Northwest League hosted its first all-star game since 2004, and it was a June first-rounder who supplied the late heroics.

Former Mississippi State and current Eugene outfielder Hunter Renfroe, the 13th overall pick by the Padres this year, went 1-for-2 in the contest, singling in the go-ahead run for the Southern Division in the top of the ninth inning. Cubs righthander Tyler Bremer preserved the South’s 8-7 win by recording the 27th out via a strikeout of Everett shortstop Jack Reinheimer (Mariners, fifth round, 2013).

Salem-Keizer third baseman Sam Eberle (Giants, 25th round, 2012) went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and three runs scored to win the game’s MVP award. He took Vancouver righty Jeremy Gabryszwski (Blue Jays, second round, 2011) deep in the fourth inning, then keyed a three-run rally in the ninth inning by leading off with a single against Everett righty Jose Valdivia.
