Patton Shut Down After 10 Pitches

Baseball America correspondent Roch Kubatko reports that Orioles lefthander Troy Patton, the team’s No. 3 prospect, was shut down today after throwing 10 pitches in a bullpen session due to tightness in his left shoulder.

Patton who has had shoulder issues the last three seasons, will likely have an MRI on his shoulder and may require surgery. He rose from Double-A Corpus Christi to the major leagues last season, posting a 3.51 ERA in 151 1/3 major league innings and a 3.55 ERA in 12 2/3 innings for the Astros. The Orioles acquired Patton this off-season in the trade that sent shortstop Miguel Tejada to the Astros.
