Minor League Transactions: July 24-Aug. 1

Here we present official minor league transactions, conveyed to us by Major League Baseball, for the period July 24-Aug. 1.

Any player listed with an asterisk (*) signed a minor league contract with the organization after being removed from the 40-man roster and clearing waivers.

For more on the July 31 trade deadline please see Trade Central, which has *free* scouting reports on *all* prospects involved in trades, a summary of trade imports/exports for all 30 clubs and Jim Callis' summation of the top prospects traded.

Arizona Diamondback
RHP Cesse DeJesus, 2B Rusty Ryal
Traded: 3B Ryan Roberts to Rays for 2B Tyler Bortnick
Traded: OF Bobby Borchering and OF Marc Krauss to Astros for 3B Chris Johnson
Removed from 40-man: RHP Yonata Ortega (outrighted to Double-A)
Reinstated from DL: RHP Cesse DeJesus, OF Tyler Graham, OF Kyle Greene

Atlanta Braves
RHP Miguel Batista (released by Mets), 2B Rusty Ryal (released by Diamondbacks), OF Emmanuel Alvarez, OF Josh Kroeger (released by Red Sox), OF Juan Puello
Released: RHP Eric Junge, RHP Charlie Robertson, 2B Lance Zawadzki
Traded: OF Christian Marrero to Pirates for 2B Brian Friday
Recalled: RHP Cory Gearrin
Optioned to Triple-A: OF Jose Constanza
Placed on 7-day DL: RHP Caleb Brewer, RHP Peter Moylan, OF Jordan Parraz, OF David Rohm
Reinstated from DL: RHP Juan Jaime, C Evan Gattis, 1B Chris Garcia

The Braves' acquisition of Reed Johnson and Paul Maholm from the Cubs pushed Jose Constanza to Triple-A and Kris Medlen to the bullpen.

Baltimore Orioles
LHP Enrico Jimenez, LHP Dustin Ward
Recalled: RHP Miguel Socolovich
Added to 40-man roster: LHP Dana Eveland (subsequently removed), OF Lew Ford
Optioned to Triple-A: RHP Miguel Socolovich, 2B Steve Tolleson
Removed from 40-man: LHP Dana Eveland (outrighted to Triple-A)
Placed on 7-day DL: RHP David Baker, LHP Pedro Viola, C Chris Robinson
Placed on 60-day DL: OF Oswill Lartiguez
Reinstated from DL: LHP Dustin Ward, 2B Ryan Adams, 2B Bill Hall

Boston Red Sox
RHP Brandon Duckworth, RHP Doug Mathis
Traded: OF Brent Lillibridge to Indians for RHP Jose de la Torre
Traded: 1B Lars Anderson to Indians for RHP Steve Wright
Recalled: RHP Clayton Mortensen, OF Ryan Kalish
Optioned to Triple-A: RHP Chris Carpenter
Placed on 7-day DL: C Jayson Hernandez, OF Alex Hassan
Reinstated from DL: RHP Luis Bastardo, RHP Will Inman, C Jayson Hernandez, 2B Tony Thomas

The Red Sox released minor league vets Brandon Duckworth (Rakuten) and Doug Mathis (Lotte) so that they could pitch in Japan. Mathis finished last season in Korea.

Boston cleared two 40-man roster spots by dealing Lars Anderson and Brent Lillibridge to the Indians in two separate transactions. Factor in their trade of Matt Albers and Scott Podsednik to the Diamondbacks for Craig Breslow and they actually cleared three roster spots, one of which went to Chris Carpenter after he returned from the 60-day DL. Another is earmarked for Andrew Bailey when he does the same.

A 26-year-old career minor league reliever, Jose de la Torre throws a plus sinking fastball at 90-94 mph and has pitched at Triple-A in each of the past three seasons, logging 10.2 strikeouts and 3.9 walks per nine innings. He doesn't have a consistent second pitch to go with his fastball—his slider is so-so—but he could receive a September look in Boston. If he's not on the 40-man roster this winter then he'll qualify as a minor league free agent.

Chicago Cubs
SS Vladimir Frias (Gateway (Frontier)), OF Jeff Frazier (released by Tigers)
Traded: RHP Ryan Dempster to Rangers for RHP Kyle Hendricks and 3B Christian Villanueva
Recalled: RHP Casey Coleman, C Welington Castillo, 2B Adrian Cardenas
Optioned to Triple-A: RHP Jaye Chapman
Optioned to Double-A: RHP Jake Brigham
Option transferred: OF Matt Szczur (high Class A to Double-A)
Removed from 40-man: RHP Jairo Asencio (outrighted to Triple-A)
Placed on 7-day DL: RHP Rafael Dolis, RHP Michael Hamann, RHP David Henrie, 2B Blake Dewitt, SS Elliot Soto, OF Taiwan Easterling, OF Jae-Hoon Ha
Reinstated from DL: RHP Dillon Maples, RHP Kenny Socorro, LHP Brian Smith

In addition to snagging prospects Kyle Hendricks and Christian Villanueva from Texas, the Cubs also snagged Arodys Vizcaino and Jaye Chapman from the Braves for Paul Maholm and Reed Johnson, plus Jake Brigham from the Rangers for Geovany Soto.

Chicago White Sox
RHP Michael Gunter (NDFA—Samford), RHP David Haselden (River City (Frontier)), LHP Matt Talley (released by Braves), SS Tommy Manzella (released by Brewers), SS Greg Paiml (released by Braves)
Released: RHP Cameron Bayne
Added to 40-man roster: SS Ray Olmedo
Optioned to Triple-A: LHP Hector Santiago
Placed on 7-day DL: RHP Dylan Axelrod, RHP Cameron Bayne, RHP Simon Castro, RHP Thomas Royse, 3B Jeff Baisley, SS Marcus Semien, OF Keenyn Walker
Reinstated from DL: RHP Cameron Bayne, RHP Nestor Molina, RHP Andre Rienzo, OF Greg Golson, OF Mark Haddow

The White Sox signed Michael Gunter and David Haselden (who pitched for Clemson) out of a tryout camp.

Cincinnati Reds
LHP Ryan Kiel
Traded: RHP Juan Carlos Sulbaran and LHP Donnie Joseph to Royals for RHP Jonathan Broxton
Recalled: RHP Todd Redmond
Designated for assignment: RHP Andrew Brackman
Placed on 7-day DL: RHP Radhames Quezada, C Brian Peacock, OF Jefry Sierra
Reinstated from DL: RHP Brett Tomko, LHP Chris Joyce, LHP Ryan Kiel, C Dioner Navarro, OF Spencer Dickinson

Cleveland Indians
OF Aaron Cunningham*
Released: RHP Yeiker Lovera, LHP Isaias Encarnacion
Traded: RHP Jose de la Torre to Red Sox for OF Brent Lillibridge
Traded: RHP Steve Wright to Red Sox for 1B Lars Anderson
Removed from 40-man: OF Aaron Cunningham (outrighted to Triple-A)
Placed on 7-day DL: 2B Matt Lawson
Reinstated from DL: RHP Kyle Blair, RHP Trey Haley, C Patric Tolentino

Lars Anderson moves to an organization where he might have his best chance for success. He stood little chance of supplanting Adrian Gonzalez in Boston (or any other expensive first-base import), but if Anderson can displace first basemen Casey Kotchman and Matt LaPorta in Cleveland—a reasonable bet for ’13—then he ought to benefit from playing half his games in Progressive Field, a venue friendly for lefty power. Though Anderson put up a mediocre .779 OPS in three full seasons with Triple-A Pawtucket, for whatever reason the 24-year-old hit much better away from home, batting .288/.370/.475 with 20 homers (.187 isolated power) in 737 plate appearances. The strikeouts could cut into his production, but for Anderson it's now or never. (Technically, he has one minor league option remaining after this season.)

Colorado Rockies
OF Chris Pettit (released by Mariners)
Recalled: LHP Edwar Cabrera, 2B Tommy Field
Optioned to Triple-A: LHP Edwar Cabrera, 2B Charlie Culberson, 2B Tommy Field
Placed on 7-day DL: RHP Stephen Dodson, OF Kent Matthes
Placed on 60-day DL: C Jose Briceno
Reinstated from DL: RHP Trent Blank, 2B Tim Smalling

The Rockies added Charlie Culberson in the trade that sent Marco Scutaro to the Giants.

Detroit Tigers
C Jordan Guida (NDFA—Tennessee Wesleyan)
Acquired: C Brad Davis from Marlins for cash considerations
Optioned to Triple-A: LHP Drew Smyly
Removed from 40-man: LHP Kelvin de la Cruz (outrighted to Double-A)
Placed on 7-day DL: RHP Brian Stroud, 3B Matt Perry, OF Ben Guez
Reinstated from DL: RHP Brennan Smith, LHP Andy Oliver

After dealing top catching prospect Rob Brantly to the Marlins in the Anibal Sanchez deal, the Tigers found themselves without a Triple-A catcher, so they turned to Miami once again to acquire minor league vet Brad Davis.

Houston Astros
RHP Jason Chowning
Traded: LHP Wandy Rodriguez to Pirates for LHP Colton Cain, LHP Rudy Owens and OF Robbie Grossman
Traded: 3B Chris Johnson to Diamondbacks for OF Bobby Borchering and OF Marc Krauss
Recalled: RHP Enerio Del Rosario, RHP Aneury Rodriguez, LHP Xavier Cedeno, 1B Brett Wallace
Added to 40-man roster: RHP Armando Galarraga
Optioned to Triple-A: LHP Fernando Abad, LHP Rudy Owens, SS Brian Bixler
Option transferred: RHP Paul Clemens (Triple-A to Double-A)
Removed from 40-man: RHP Enerio Del Rosario, RHP Aneury Rodriguez (both players outrighted to Triple-A)
Placed on 7-day DL: RHP R.J. Alaniz, RHP Jarred Cosart, RHP Jonas Dufek, RHP Jose Trinidad, C Rene Garcia, 1B Telvin Nash, OF Jackson Hogue, OF Andy Simunic
Reinstated from DL: RHP Francisco Baso, RHP Jason Chowning, RHP Krishawn Holley, RHP Chia-Jen Lo, RHP Raul Rivera, LHP Brad Dydalewicz, LHP David Rollins

Paul Clemens started well enough in Triple-A, but he's gotten absolutely hammered in his last nine starts for Oklahoma City, going 2-4, 7.66 with 26 whiffs in 44 2/3 innings and a 2.10 WHIP. His road starts fell in New Orleans, Round Rock, Iowa, Omaha and Memphis, so one can't point to inhumane pitching conditions as the culprit. Scouts still believe Clemens has a big league arm, but perhaps his plus fastball, good curve and still-in-question stamina would fit best in the bullpen.

Kansas City Royals
3B Ryan Dale
Traded: RHP Jonathan Broxton to Reds for RHP Juan Carlos Sulbaran and LHP Donnie Joseph
Placed on 7-day DL: RHP Bryan Paukovits, OF Roman Hernandez
Reinstated from DL: RHP Leondy Perez, 2B Angel Franco, SS Christian Colon

The Royals signed 16-year-old Ryan Dale out of the MLB Australian Baseball Academy, and this piece credits him as the ABA's sixth player from the state of Victoria to sign with a major league organization.

Los Angeles Angels
RHP Jarrett Grube (released by Mariners), RHP Adam Russell (released by Braves)
Released: RHP Trevor Bell, RHP Kyle Hurst
Recalled: LHP Hisanori Takahashi, SS Andrew Romine
Optioned to Triple-A: LHP Hisanori Takahashi, C John Hester
Removed from 40-man: RHP Trevor Bell (outrighted to Triple-A)
Placed on 7-day DL: LHP Tyler Kehrer
Reinstated from DL: LHP Juan Carlin

Perhaps feeling insecure about losing 6-foot-9 Johnny Hellweg in the Zack Greinke trade and 7-foot-1 Loek Van Mil in a minor trade with the Indians in May, the Angels have compensated by signing 6-foot-8 reliever Adam Russell.

Los Angeles Dodgers
LHP Wil Ledezma, 2B Travis Denker
Traded: RHP Nate Eovaldi and RHP Scott McGough to Marlins for LHP Randy Choate and 3B Hanley Ramirez
Traded: RHP Logan Bawcom and OF Leon Landry to Mariners for RHP Brandon League
Traded: RHP Josh Lindblom and RHP Ethan Martin to Phillies for OF Shane Victorino
Recalled: RHP Stephen Fife, RHP Shawn Tolleson
Optioned to Triple-A: RHP Shawn Tolleson
Designated for assignment: LHP Michael Antonini
Placed on 7-day DL: SS Joe Becker, OF Kyle Russell
Reinstated from DL: RHP Stephen Smith, C J.T. Wise, OF Nick Akins, OF Tyler Henson, OF Brahiam Maldonado

The Dodgers released Wil Ledezma so that he could sign with Lotte in Japan.

Los Angeles' trade-deadline hyperactivity cost them top pitching talent like Nate Eovaldi (No. 3 prospect heading into ’12), Josh Lindblom (No. 8), Ethan Martin (No. 17) and depth-chart bullpen jokers Logan Bawcom and Scott McGough, but the Dodgers managed to hang onto their top two arms, Double-A righties Zach Lee and Allen Webster.

Miami Marlins
C Humberto Quintero
Traded: 1B Gaby Sanchez and RHP Kyle Kaminska to Pirates for OF Gorkys Hernandez and 2013 supplemental first-round pick
Traded: LHP Randy Choate and 3B Hanley Ramirez to Dodgers for RHP Nate Eovaldi and RHP Scott McGough
Traded: C Brad Davis to Tigers for cash considerations
Recalled: RHP Ryan Webb, LHP Dan Jennings, OF Bryan Petersen
Added to 40-man roster: 2B Donnie Murphy
Optioned to Triple-A: RHP Jacob Turner
Optioned to Double-A: 3B Zack Cox
Option transferred: RHP Arquimedes Caminero (high Class A to Double-A)
Placed on 7-day DL: RHP Chris Squires
Transferred to 60-day DL: 1B Carlos Duran
Reinstated from DL: C Cole Armstrong, OF Cody Keefer, OF Michael Main

The Marlins traded away six players and approximately $10.2 million in remaining ’12 salary commitments, which amounted to a savings of about $9.2 million on this year's payroll expenditures, assuming Miami replaced those six on the active roster with players making the major leauge minimum of $480,000. (The six traded players include the three listed above plus Anibal Sanchez, Omar Infante and Edward Mujica.) They shed $35.5 million in ’13 and ’14 commitments to Hanley Ramirez and Infante, and that total only grows once arbitration raises are factored in for Mujica and Gaby Sanchez next season.

Milwaukee Brewers
C Humberto Quintero (released by Marlins)
Released: RHP Seth McClung, 1B Michael Nemeth, SS Tommy Manzella
Recalled: RHP Mike McClendon, RHP Mark Rogers
Added to 40-man roster: RHP Jim Henderson
Optioned to Triple-A: RHP Fautino de los Santos, RHP Tyler Thornburg, SS Jeff Bianchi
Optioned to Double-A: RHP Johnny Hellweg, RHP Ariel Pena, SS Jean Segura
Removed from 40-man: 1B Brock Kjeldgaard (outrighted to high Class A), SS Edwin Maysonet (outrighted to Triple-A)
Placed on 7-day DL: RHP Steven Hall, RHP Francisco Rivero, LHP Philippe Valiquette, C Dayton Buller, C Tyler Roberts, OF Franklin Romero, OF Logan Schafer
Reinstated from DL: RHP Maverick Lasker, RHP Andy Moye, RHP Jimmy Nelson, RHP Francisco Rivero, C Parker Berberet, SS Carlos George

Jim Henderson showed rare perseverance in logging a decade of minor league time with three organizations before making his big league debut. In fact, Henderson is one of four ’03 draft picks to make his first MLB appearance this year, and that's the oldest-vintage draft year from which players have graduated this season. The other three ’03 picks: Irving Falu (Royals), Stu Pomeranz (Orioles) and Darin Downs (Tigers).

Johnny Hellweg, Ariel Pena and Jean Segura, all products of the Zack Greinke trade with the Angels, switch Double-A clubs, going from Arkansas of the Texas League to Huntsville of the Southern.

Minnesota Twins
RHP Eric Hurley (elected free agency from Angels), C Brian Compton (NDFA—Cal State Los Angeles)
Released: RHP Garrett Jewell, LHP Steven Evans
Recalled: RHP Jeff Manship, 3B Danny Valencia
Added to 40-man roster: RHP Luis Perdomo
Optioned to Triple-A: LHP Pedro Hernandez, SS Eduardo Escobar
Placed on 7-day DL: RHP Cole Johnson, RHP Dan Sattler
Reinstated from DL: RHP Deolis Guerra, RHP Garrett Jewell, 2B Eddie Rosario

The Twins acquired Pedro Hernandez and Eduardo Escobar from the White Sox for Francisco Liriano, and they're safe bets for September callups, if they have to wait that long. Both could carve out big leauge roles next season.

New York Mets
RHP Craig Hansen
Released: RHP Erik Turgeon
Recalled: C Rob Johnson
Added to 40-man roster: RHP Manny Acosta, RHP Matt Harvey
Optioned to Triple-A: C Mike Nickeas, OF Lucas Duda, OF Kirk Nieuwenhuis
Option transferred: LHP Robert Carson (Double-A to Triple-A)
Placed on 7-day DL: RHP Craig Hansen, RHP Edgar Ramirez, C Jean Luc Blaquiere, OF Cesar Puello
Placed on 60-day DL: RHP Jake Kuebler
Reinstated from DL: RHP Cory Mazzoni, RHP Erik Turgeon, LHP Brandon Sage, 3B Joe Bonfe

The Pirates released Craig Hansen at the end of spring training ’11 after a pair of injury-wracked seasons in which he made just 17 total appearances. The St. John's product came down with Parsonage-Turner syndrome (the effects of which you can read about in this feature) which cost him velocity and strength. The Mets point out in a press release that they signed Hansen through the ’13 season, so don't necessarily expect to see him in action this season.

New York Yankees
RHP Charlie Short (Roswell (Pecos)), OF Darnell McDonald*
Released: 2B Matt Antonelli
Recalled: SS Ramiro Pena
Option transferred: SS Eduardo Nunez (high Class A to Triple-A)
Placed on 7-day DL: RHP Caleb Cotham, RHP Pedro Guerra, LHP Shaeffer Hall, C Tyson Blaser, 3B Casey Stevenson, SS Anderson Feliz, OF Neil Medchill, OF Mason Williams
Placed on 60-day DL: RHP Jordan Cote, RHP Joseph Maher
Transferred to 60-day DL: RHP Dawerd Cruz, LHP Eric Erickson
Reinstated from DL: RHP Ryan Flannery, RHP Zach Nuding, RHP Angel Rincon, LHP Jeremy Bleich, C Nick McCoy, C Jackson Valera, 2B Ronnier Mustelier, SS Walter Ibarra, OF Taylor Anderson, OF Tyler Austin

Oakland Athletics
RHP Chris Ray
Optioned to Triple-A: C Derek Norris
Placed on 7-day DL: 3B Miles Head
Reinstated from DL: C Daniel Petitti, OF Myrio Richard

Philadelphia Phillies
RHP Andrew Aizenstadt (Wichita (American Association))
Released: 3B Jeremy Barnes
Traded: OF Shane Victorino to Dodgers for RHP Josh Lindblom and RHP Ethan Martin
Traded: OF Hunter Pence to Giants for RHP Seth Rosin, C Tommy Joseph and OF Nate Schierholtz
Recalled: OF Domonic Brown
Option transferred: C Sebastian Valle, 2B Cesar Hernandez (both players Double-A to Triple-A)
Added to 40-man roster: 3B Kevin Frandsen
Removed from 40-man: OF Jason Pridie (outrighted to Triple-A)
Placed on 7-day DL: RHP Ryan Duke, LHP Pat Misch, LHP Ethan Stewart, OF Aaron Altherr
Reinstated from DL: LHP Bryan Morgado, C Kyle Lafrenz, C Steve Lerud

The Phillies turned to trade acquisition Nate Schierholtz and former top prospect Domonic Brown after dealing away two-thirds of their starting outfield—Shane Victorino and Hunter Pence—on July 31. Brown had returned strong from injury with Triple-A Lehigh Valley, batting .362/.412/.489 (17-for-47) with a homer and three doubles in 13 July games. Unless the Phillies sign a veteran corner outfielder this offseason, the 24-year-old Brown will have his clearest path to playing time—though he does have one minor league option remaining after this season.

Pittsburgh Pirates
RHP Erik Turgeon (released by Mets)
Traded: LHP Colton Cain, LHP Rudy Owens and OF Robbie Grossman to Astros for LHP Wandy Rodriguez
Traded: OF Gorkys Hernandez and 2013 supplemental first-round pick to Marlins for 1B Gaby Sanchez and RHP Kyle Kaminska
Traded: 2B Brian Friday to Braves for OF Christian Marrero
Recalled: RHP Daniel McCutchen, OF Starling Marte
Optioned to Triple-A: RHP Evan Meek, OF Gorkys Hernandez
Placed on 7-day DL: RHP Jordan Cooper, RHP Duke Welker, LHP Jo-Jo Reyes, 2B Walker Gourley
Reinstated from DL: RHP Doug Salinas, LHP Orlando Castro, LHP Jo-Jo Reyes

The Pirates did well at the deadline, adding three major league pieces to help this season without sacrificing significant long-term assets. (They may end up missing the ’13 supplemental first-rounder—and attendant signing-budget boost—most of all.) Wandy Rodriguez provides Pittsburgh with a third veteran for a potential playoff rotation—joining A.J. Burnett and Erik Bedard—while providing insurance against a Bedard injury or fade by sophomore James McDonald. In first baseman Gaby Sanchez (career .873 OPS versus lefties) and right fielder Travis Snider (career .755 vs. righties), Pittsburgh added, at worst, platoon corner bats to help prop up a below-average offense.

St. Louis Cardinals
Added to 40-man roster:
LHP Brian Fuentes
Optioned to Triple-A: RHP Victor Marte
Designated for assignment: RHP Chuckie Fick
Placed on 7-day DL: RHP Ethan Cole, RHP Scott Gorgen, RHP Travis Miller, RHP Eduardo Sanchez, LHP Nick Additon, 1B David Bergin
Reinstated from DL: RHP Scott Gorgen, LHP Brian Fuentes, C Luis de la Cruz, 2B Leandro Mateo, 3B Zack Cox

The Astros claimed Chuckie Fick on waivers after the Cardinals DFA'd him. Houston general manager Jeff Luhnow drafted Fick in ’07 while serving as St. Louis scouting director.

San Diego Padres
LHP R.L. Eisenbach, 1B Zach Kometani
Recalled: RHP Brad Boxberger
Added to 40-man roster: C Eddy Rodriguez
Placed on 7-day DL: C Roman Solis, 2B Casey McElroy, SS Felix Cabrera, SS Stephen Carmon, SS Beamer Weems
Transferred to 60-day DL: RHP Zach Eflin
Reinstated from DL: RHP Luis de la Cruz, RHP Chris Wilkes, LHP Mark Hardy, LHP Daniel Lazzaroni, 1B Zach Kometani, 1B Clark Murphy, 2B Casey McElroy, 2B Cory Spangenberg, SS Cody Gabella, OF Luis Domoromo, OF Kyung-Min Na, OF Blake Tekotte

Zach Eflin, a supplemental first-rounder this year, came down with mononucleosis and will miss the rest of the season. He made four appearances in the Arizona League. (Source: Padres correspondent Tom Krasovic.)

San Francisco Giants
RHP Seth Rosin, C Tommy Joseph and OF Nate Schierholtz to Phillies for OF Hunter Pence
Recalled: 1B Brett Pill
Placed on 7-day DL: RHP Demondre Arnold, LHP Josh Osich
Transferred to 60-day DL: RHP Jose Casilla
Reinstated from DL: RHP Andrew Berger, RHP Craig Whitaker, LHP Scott Walker, C Joel Weeks, 3B Shayne Houck, OF Francisco Peguero

Seattle Mariners
RHP Willy Kesler, RHP Jeff Marquez, RHP Scott Patterson, RHP Chris Reitsma, RHP Cody Weiss, OF Mario Yepez
Traded: RHP Brandon League to Dodgers for RHP Logan Bawcom and OF Leon Landry
Recalled: RHP Stephen Pryor, OF Trayvon Robinson
Added to 40-man roster: RHP Carter Capps
Optioned to Triple-A: OF Carlos Peguero
Placed on 7-day DL: RHP Jonathan Arias, RHP Richard Vargas, OF Jamal Austin, OF Jabari Blash
Reinstated from DL: RHP Matt Fox, RHP Scott Patterson, 2B Carlos Ramirez

Chris Reitsma has been unofficially retired and on the restricted list since April ’08.

The Mariners turned relievers Brandon League and Steve Delabar into three players at the deadline, including outfielders Leon Landry and Eric Thames. In similar fashion, Seattle added minor league outfielders Casper Wells, Trayvon Robinson and Chih-Hsien Chiang at last year's deadline.

Tampa Bay Rays
1B Brandon Allen
Traded: 2B Tyler Bortnick to Diamondbacks for 3B Ryan Roberts
Recalled: RHP Josh Lueke
Optioned to Triple-A: 3B Brooks Conrad
Placed on 7-day DL: RHP Bryan Augenstein, C Keith Castillo
Reinstated from DL: RHP Romulo Sanchez, OF Kes Carter

Brandon Allen signed with SoftBank in Japan after the Rays agreed to release him.

Texas Rangers
RHP Kyle Hendricks and 3B Christian Villanueva to Cubs for RHP Ryan Dempster
Optioned to Triple-A: OF Leonys Martin
Placed on 7-day DL: RHP Ben Henry, 2B Greg Miclat, OF Val Majewski
Reinstated from DL: RHP Neil Ramirez, RHP Matt West

Toronto Blue Jays
RHP Scott Copeland (released by Orioles), C Ryan Eigsti (Southern Illinois (Frontier))
Recalled: RHP Joel Carreno, LHP Evan Crawford, 1B David Cooper, OF Moises Sierra
Optioned to Triple-A: RHP Chad Beck, RHP Joel Carreno, LHP Evan Crawford
Option transferred: RHP Joel Carreno (Triple-A to Double-A), 1B Mike McDade (Double-A to Triple-A)
Placed on 7-day DL: C Luis Hurtado, 1B Gabe Jacobo
Reinstated from DL: RHP Jesse Chavez, LHP Sean Nolin, LHP Colton Turner, OF Brad McElroy

Washington Nationals
RHP Brian Broderick (released by Cardinals), RHP Mike MacDougal (released by Cubs), OF Jonny Tucker (Somerset (Atlantic))
Released: RHP Josh Wilkie
Optioned to Triple-A: OF Corey Brown
Placed on 7-day DL: LHP Cory VanAllen, C Jeremy Mayo, 2B Jeff Kobernus, 2B Stephen Perez, OF Billy Burns, OF Shawn Pleffner, OF Chris Rahl
Reinstated from DL: RHP Rob Gilliam, LHP Bryan Harper, C Cole Leonida, 2B Stephen Perez, OF Brett Newsome

The Nationals didn't make any deadline deals, but they did sign a pair of relievers with prior experience in Washington to minor league deals. Mike MacDougal pitched in the system in ’09 and ’10, while Brian Broderick made the ’11 club because of his status as a Rule 5 pick—but he lasted only until May 23 before being returned to the Cardinals.
