Twice ranked among the Cubs’ Top 10 Prospects, in 2011 and 2012, righthander Trey McNutt converted to the bullpen at Double-A Tennessee in 2013, then missed all of 2014 after having shoulder surgery. The 26-year-old returned in 2015 to log just eight innings in the Rookie-level Arizona League before Chicago released him. When healthy, McNutt topped out in the mid-90s with a plus slider.

San Francisco Giants
3B Conor Gillaspie

Conor Gillaspie returns to the Giants, the organization that made him a supplemental first-round selection out of Wichita State in 2008. San Francisco traded him to the White Sox before the 2013 season, however, because he ran out of minor league options. Gillaspie spent the 2013 through 2015 seasons with the White Sox and Angels, hitting .257/.310/.394 (96 OPS+) in 1,211 plate appearances as the rare lefthanded-hitting third baseman.
