Minor League Transactions: Jan. 21-28

Official minor league transactions, conveyed to us by Major League Baseball, for the period Jan. 21-28.

Arizona Diamondbacks
RHP Mike DeMark (re-signed), 3B Chris Nowak (York (Atlantic))
Traded: 3B Chris Johnson and OF Justin Upton to Braves for RHP Randall Delgado, RHP Zeke Spruill, 3B Brandon Drury, SS Nick Ahmed and OF Martin Prado

Chris Nowak played in the Brewers system in ’11 but didn't latch on with an affiliated club last year, beginning in the Mexican League (five games) before signing with York and batting .285/.391/.570 with an Atlantic League-leading 34 homers and 107 RBIs in 129 games.

Atlanta Braves
RHP Randall Delgado, RHP Zeke Spruill, 3B Brandon Drury, SS Nick Ahmed and OF Martin Prado to Diamondbacks for 3B Chris Johnson and OF Justin Upton

Baltimore Orioles
RHP Rob Delaney, RHP Manny Delcarmen, OF Chris Pettit, OF Andrickson Zorrilla (NDFA—Advanced Software Analysis (N.Y.) JC)

The Orioles' foray into the minor league free agent market has turned up more than a dozen players with big league experience. The list includes not only Rob Delaney, Manny Delcarmen and Chris Pettit above, but also Lew Ford, Travis Ishikawa, Conor Jackson, Daniel McCutchen, Jason Pridie, Niuman Romero and Rich Rundles.

Boston Red Sox
RHP Charlie Haeger (did not play in ’12), LHP Christian Perdomo (NDFA—Advanced Software Analysis (N.Y.) JC)
Reinstated from DL: RHP Mathew Price

The Red Sox released Charlie Haeger prior to spring training last year, but the knuckleballer is back in the fold after taking a year off.

Chicago Cubs
OF Bobby Buckner (NDFA—Texas A&M-Corpus Christi)

Former Texas A&M-Corpus Christi outfielder Boby Buckner is the son of former big leaguer Bill Buckner, who starred for the Cubs from 1977 to ’84.

Chicago White Sox
RHP Andrew Brackman

The White Sox have gambled on other clubs' first-round pitching talents in the past, hitting the jackpot with the likes of John Danks, Gavin Floyd, Matt Thornton and (briefly) Phil Humber, but Andrew Brackman may represent the biggest challenge yet. He hasn't had a walk rate below 5 BB/9 since the first half of ’10 with Double-A Trenton in the Yankees system. Chicago also signed reclamation lefty Trevor Reckling this offseason, and they're bringing hard-throwing first-rounders David Purcey (’04 Blue Jays) and Daniel Moskos (’07 Pirates) to big league camp.

Cincinnati Reds
RHP Shaun Ellis, 3B Matt Mangini

The Phillies drafted Shaun Ellis in the 32nd round in ’08, but he never appeared in a game for the organization. He spent the ’09 through ’11 seasons playing independent ball, but he appears to have taken a year off prior to signing with Cincinnati.

Milwaukee Brewers
SS Bobby Crosby (did not play in 2011-12)
Released: RHP Hitaniel Arias, OF Jose Garcia
