Minor League Transactions: Dec. 15-20

We come to the final transactions installment for the year 2010. But unless teams stop signing, releasing and trading minor league players, we'll be back in 2011.

Atlanta Braves
RHP Jose Reyes, 1B Ernesto Mejia

Baltimore Orioles
C Michel Hernandez (re-signed)

Boston Red Sox
RHP Ryan Harvey, LHP Andrew Miller (re-signed)

As alluded to previously in the comments section, Ryan Harvey, the former slugging outfielder taken sixth overall in 2003, has converted to the mound. He did not appear in a game as a pitcher for the Rockies, his previous employer, but he began working as one behind the scenes for Double-A Tulsa, reportedly hitting the low 90s with sink.

Chicago Cubs
LHP Polin Trinidad

Polin Trinidad sits in high 80s with a nice changeup. His funky angles and relatively young age (26) means he's still young enough to embark on a career as a lefty reliever.

Cincinnati Reds
OF Brian Barton (Bridgeport (Atlantic))
Released: 2B Kevyn Feiner, 3B Danny Hernandez

Brian Barton showed a well-rounded game in the Atlantic League, batting .346 with 19 homers and 18 stolen bases. At 28, he's young enough to carve out a Triple-A career, if not a big league one as a reserve outfielder

Cleveland Indians
RHP Toru Murata (Yomiuri (Japan)), 2B Cristo Arnal (re-signed)

The Indians signed Toru Murata after the righthander had been released by Japan's Yomiuri Giants in December. He played three seasons in the minors there, going 0-4, 4.25 with a 22-to-10 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 29 2/3 innings last year.

Colorado Rockies
LHP Paul Bargas to Twins for C Jose Morales

Detroit Tigers
SS Argenis Diaz, OF Clay Timpner, OF Brandon Tripp

A plus defensive shortstop, 23-year-old Argenis Diaz has managed to hit just .243/.292/.269 in 123 Triple-A games. The Pirates, who seemingly haven't had a good shortstop since Jay Bell, non-tendered him in December, less than two years after acquiring him in their trade of Adam LaRoche to the Red Sox.

Houston Astros
RHP Sammy Gervacio (re-signed), LHP Andy Van Hekken (re-signed)

Kansas City Royals
RHP Zack Greinke and SS Yuniesky Betancourt to Brewers for RHP Jeremy Jeffress, RHP Jake Odorizzi, SS Alcides Escobar and OF Lorenzo Cain

Los Angeles Angels
RHP Ryan Braun
Elected free agency: C Ryan Budde
Removed from 40-man roster: C Ryan Budde

Righty reliever Ryan Braun has average stuff overall but a pretty good curve. With Triple-A Charlotte (White Sox) this year he held righthanded batters to 18-for-108 (.167).

Los Angeles Dodgers
C Damaso Espino, SS Juan Castro (re-signed), OF Eugenio Velez

Milwaukee Brewers
RHP Jeremy Jeffress, RHP Jake Odorizzi, SS Alcides Escobar and OF Lorenzo Cain to Royals for RHP Zack Greinke and SS Yuniesky Betancourt
Removed from 40-man roster: RHP Josh Butler

Minnesota Twins
RHP Andy Baldwin, LHP Chuck James, C Steven Holm, C Rene Rivera, 2B Ray Chang, 3B Matt Brown
Traded: C Jose Morales to Rockies for LHP Paul Bargas

In the same week they traded backup catcher Jose Morales, the Twins signed two backstops—Steve Holm, Rene Rivera—with major league experience to minor league deals.

A corner infielder, Matt Brown is coming off two poor years in the Triple-A Pacific Coast League, posing a .753 OPS for Oklahoma City this year and .748 for Salt Lake the year before.

New York Yankees
RHP Ronny Marte (re-signed), RHP Mark Prior, RHP Leonel Vinas, LHP Steve Evarts, LHP Jose Quintana (re-signed), C Gustavo Molina, 1B Myron Leslie (re-signed), SS Doug Bernier
Released: RHP Justo Arias, RHP Harold Garce, RHP Charlyn Garcia, LHP Matt Jernstad, LHP Juan Marcano, LHP Erick Tapia, 1B Trent Lockwood, 2B Luis Parache, 3B Ronald Morillo

Oakland Athletics
RHP Fernando Cabrera, RHP Jonathan Ortiz

Righty reliever Jonathan Ortiz, 25, throws a sinker and a very good changeup, and he compiled a crazy rate of 11.8 strikeouts per nine innings in the low minors with the Yankees.

Philadelphia Phillies
RHP Felix Cespedes

Pittsburgh Pirates
RHP Tyler Yates (re-signed), 3B Gerardo Alvarez

San Diego Padres
RHP Brandon Gomes, RHP Adam Russell, LHP Cesar Ramos and 2B Cole Figueroa to Rays for SS Jason Bartlett and a player to be named

Seattle Mariners
RHP Denny Bautista, LHP Royce Ring
Released: RHP Preston Vancil

Tampa Bay Rays
RHP Tyree Hayes, RHP Rayner Oliveros, 1B Matt Fields, 1B Ryan Wiegand, 3B Mike Folli, OF Ruben Contreras
Traded: SS Jason Bartlett and a player to be named to Padres for RHP Brandon Gomes, RHP Adam Russell, LHP Cesar Ramos and 2B Cole Figueroa

Texas Rangers
RHP Derek Hankins, LHP Kevin Gunderson, LHP Zach Jackson, SS Omar Quintanilla, OF Erold Andrus, OF Salvador Sanchez
Released: LHP Michael Ballard, C Chris Gradoville

The Rangers signed two players who attended college in Texas in lefty-hitting shortstop/second baseman Omar Quintanilla (Texas) and lefty Zach Jackson (Texas A&M). They also signed Elvis Andrus's older brother Erold, who played in the independent  Golden and Atlantic leagues in 2010.

Toronto Blue Jays
RHP Brian Stokes

Brian Stokes throws very hard, but for the Angels this season he ran up an 8.10 ERA and 16-to-16 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 16 2/3 innings.

Washington Nationals
RHP Harvey Garcia, RHP Chad Gaudin, C Carlos Maldonado, 1B Michael Aubrey, 2B Matt Antonelli, 3B Alex Valdez
Released: RHP Marty Beno, RHP Dustin Crane, RHP Zach Gerler, RHP John Santiago, RHP Shane Zellers, LHP Randy Mower, OF Marcus Jones, OF Nick Moresi

The Dodgers released Harvey Garcia in May this year, but he's attracted attention with a solid showing in the Venezuelan League: 28 strikeouts, 20 walks, two homers in 38 innings.
