Six-foot-eight first baseman Nate Freiman owns a career .279/.326/.470 batting line (.191 isolated slugging, 17 percent strikeouts) versus big league lefthanders. He and fellow offseason imports Jorday Lara and Brandon Snyder could be on the Braves’ radar if they have room on the roster for a righthanded-hitting corner bat in 2015.

By signing Xavier Avery to a minor league deal, the Orioles have reunited their top three picks from the 2008 draft. Lefty reliever Brian Matusz, selected fourth overall, has played for no other organization but Baltimore, while center fielder Avery, who recorded a .343 on-base percentage at three Triple-A stops in 2015, and left fielder L.J. Hoes were the Orioles’ second- and third-round picks. Hoes re-joined the Orioles in November when they purchased him from the Astros.

Rainel Rosario, a 27-year-old, righthanded-hitting corner outfielder from the Dominican Republic, played in the Cardinals system from 2006 to 2012, reaching Double-A Springfield, then spent two years in the Japanese majors in 2014 and 2015. He hit .309/.370/.503 with 16 homers in 111 games in two seasons with Hiroshima.

The White Sox parted with control-oriented Double-A starter Myles Jaye to acquire lefty reliever Will Lamb, who spent the second half of 2015 at Triple-A Round Rock in the Rangers system. On the season, he allowed lefthanded batters to hit just .210 with just three-extra-base hits and 22 percent strikeouts.

A Diamondbacks second-round pick in 2009, Marc Krauss owns a walk-heavy .268/.381/.424 batting line at the Triple-A level in parts of four seasons, but he has failed to gain a foothold in the majors, batting .188 in parts of three seasons and recording a meager 18 adjusted-OPS+ in trials with the Angels, Rays and Tigers in 2015.

The Mets released right fielder Cesar Puello in August after he had spent virtually all season on the disabled list with a back issue. He turned in two poor seasons after a breakthrough performance in 2013 that saw him record a .950 OPS at Double-A Binghamton. Puello might have reached the majors that September had he not been suspended for 50 games because of his entanglement in the Biogenesis scandal that August. He is the only one of the 14 players linked to Biogenesis (full list in this document) who has not reached the majors.

The 25-year-old Puello played in the Dominican League this offseason, batting .256/.347/.302 with one extra-base hit in 25 games.
