AFL Dish: McKenry Goes Deep Again

Prospect Of The Day

What started as a great day has quickly turned into a great week for Desert Dogs catcher Mike McKenry (Rockies). After hitting three home runs on Monday, McKenry left the park again yesterday as part of a 2-for-4 day at the plate that also included a double as the Desert Dogs beat the Surprise Rafters, 12-7. Over the past three games, McKenry has gone 8-for-13 with a double, five home runs and 11 RBIs.

Other Notable Performances

McKenry’s teammate, center fielder Eric Young (Rockies) also had a great day that included a home run … but it didn’t leave the park. In the fifth inning, with the bases loaded, Young hit a ball into center field. Rafters center fielder Julio Borbon (Rangers) tried to make a diving catch and the ball got past him, allowing Young to circle the bases for an inside-the-park grand slam. The feat was part of a 3-for-4 day at the plate that extended Young’s AFL hit streak to 13 games. . . Surprise third baseman Wes Hodges (Indians) went 3-for-5 with two doubles. . . Scottsdale center fielder Brian Bogusevic (Astros) went 2-for-4 and stole a base as the Rafters held off the Peoria Javelinas, 3-2. Bogusevic has just 19 AFL at-bats, but is hitting .421 thus far. . . The Mesa Solar Sox thumped the Peoria Saguaros 10-1, thanks in part to first baseman Logan Morrison (Marlins) going 2-for-5 with a double and three RBIs. . . Saguaros third baseman Brett Wallace (Cardinals) went 3-for-4, all singles, in the losing effort.
