AA Playoff Dish: Aeros Win Slugfest

Akron 13, Trenton 10 (Best-of-5 series is tied 1-1)

After a low-scoring first game, both teams had the lumber ringing in game two. With a combined 27 hits, 23 runs, 13 walks, five errors and two hit batters, the game took more than four hours to complete. The game was tied at six after seven innings, but Akron exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the eighth, bringing 12 batters to the plate. Trenton came back to score four in the top of the ninth, but it wasn’t enough and now the series is knotted up at one game each. Right fielder Bronson Sardinha had a great night at the plate for the Aeros, going 4-for-5 with a double, a home run and four RBIs. Trenton center fielder Austin Jackson had a solid night at the plate as well, going 3-for-6 with two doubles.

Frisco 4, Arkansas 3 (Best-of-5 series is tied 1-1)

After losing the first game, Frisco came back to win the second, evening up the series. Frisco righthander Neftali Feliz got off to a rough start in the bottom of the first. After getting a ground out, he walked the next two batters and then threw a wild pitch, putting runners on second and third. He struck out third baseman Corey Smith, bringing DH Hank Conger to the plate with two outs. Conger hit a line drive back up the middle, bringing in the two runs. Feliz settled down after that, giving up one more run over the next five innings. He didn’t walk any more batters after the first and struck out six on the night, earning his second playoff win and lowering his post-season ERA to 1.38. Frisco shortstop Elvis Andrus went 2-for-5 with a double and a triple, raising his post-season batting average to .316.
