Spring Has Sprung: Diamondbacks Pitchers, Catchers Report

With their first game that counts scheduled for March 22 in Sydney, the Diamondbacks on Thursday opened spring training, about a week before most teams and two days before the Dodgers—their foes in the Australian series—are set to report.

As you see in our handy table, Arizona’s first scheduled workout for the batteries is Friday.

Pitchers and catchers for most clubs will report next week, with full squads set in about two weeks.

As for the historic opening in Australia, at least one Arizona player is excited, despite the length of the flight.

“It’s an honor to go there because it’s going to be the first Major League Baseball game to be played there. I’ve heard there are people there who have never seen a major league game, so it’s going be something special to go there,” closer J.J. Putz told the Arizona ABC-TV affiliate.
