The Cardinals' sudden release of veteran second baseman Adam Kennedy was the boldest, and perhaps most aggressive, sign yet as to how much the club plans to lean on its farm system in 2009. Kennedy's release, entering the final year of his contract, left the everyday role open with no clear replacement.
