After hitting 555 home runs in a major league career that ended with five games for the Rays in 2011, Manny Ramirez hit his first home run in Taiwan today.
Ramirez, 40, signed a contract last month to play for the EDA Rhinos in Taiwan’s Chinese Professional Baseball League this year. According to Taiwanese media, Ramirez’s home run was also the 7,000th home run in the history of the CPBL, which was founded in 1989. The 12,000 fans in attendance set a regular-season record for Tainan Municipal Baseball Stadium. The reaction of the fans to Ramirez’s home run is fun to watch, but the announcer’s call alone is worth clicking the video.
