2013 Draft State Report: Ohio

The state’s presumed top prospect heading into the spring, Ohio State righthander/first baseman Josh Desze, missed the entire season with a bulging disc in his back that eventually required surgery. Even without him, Ohio has more talent that usual.

***** One for the books
**** Banner year
*** Solid, not spectacular
** Not up to par
* Nothing to see here
Rating compares this year’s group to what a state typically produces, not to other states

Three of the Buckeye State’s four best prospects have ties to Kent State: Golden Flashers righthanders Tyler Skulina and Taylor Williams, and Midview High (Grafton) lefthander Eric Lauer, their top recruit. Pitchers dominate the state’s prospect landscape at both the high school and college levels, with Youngstown State third baseman Drew Dosch the only potential early-round position player.
