2013 Draft State Report: Louisiana

A good year for Louisiana State usually means a good year for Louisiana in the draft. However this year’s Tigers team, while having a pair of potential top-three-rounders in Ryan Eades and JaCoby Jones, is more like Vanderbilt with a load of solid draft picks rather than a flood of high selections.

***** One for the books
**** Banner year
*** Solid, not spectacular
** Not up to par
* Nothing to see here
Rating compares this year’s group to what a state typically produces, not to other states

LSU does have potential first-rounders for the next two seasons with freshman shortstop Alex Bregman and sophomore righthander Aaron Nola.

This year’s draft class in Louisiana features prep players who didn’t take a step forward this year at the bottom, while some darkhorses started attracting more and more interest. Lefty Garrett Williams has taken a step back in the last month and was expected to make good on his Oklahoma State commitment. Outfielders Justin Williams and Ivan Wilson remained enigmatic players with inconsistent performances. One of the intriguing names was Jervenski Johnson, a raw, toolsy outfielder/pitcher who was previously committed to play football for Arkansas.
