2011 Futures Game: World Roster

World team features plenty of talent on the mound

Major League Baseball and Baseball America are proud to announce the rosters for the 2011 All-Star Futures Game, which will be held July 10 in Phoneix. The game features a United States-World matchup, with two 25-man rosters made up of 10 pitchers, two catchers, four corner infielders, four middle infielders and five outfielders.

Henderson Alvarez, rhp

Blue Jays

Double-A  New Hampshire (Eastern)

Venezuela

Alvarez has moved a step at a time through the Jays system, up to Double-A this year after opening in high Class A, with his stuff getting better as he has matured. His fastball now touches 98 mph.

Liam Hendriks, rhp

Twins

Double-A  New Britain (Eastern)

Australia

The Twins mine Australia as aggressively as any organization, and Hendriks could be their best find. He was knocked out of the Futures Game last year by an appendectomy.

Kelvin Herrera, rhp

Royals

Double-A Northwest Arkansas (Texas)

Dominican Republic

Herrera got lost in the shuffle when he made just nine starts in two years due to elbow problems. A move to the bullpen has been the answer, as he has shown dominant stuff.

Gregori Infante, rhp

White Sox

Triple-A Charlotte (International)

Venezuela

Infante took off after switching to relief and has already seen big league bullpen time. He will eventually find a permanent role there thanks to a fastball that can touch triple digits.

Jhan Marinez, rhp

Marlins

Double-A Jacksonville (Southern)

Dominican Republic

The Marlins have a wealth of hard-throwing relievers in the minors, and Marinez stands out with an explosive fastball that can touch 98 mph. He has the stuff to close if he sharpens his command.

Carlos Martinez, rhp

Cardinals

Low Class A  Quad Cities (Midwest)

Dominican Republic

After his signing with the Red Sox in 2009 was nixed and he was suspended for a year, Martinez signed with the Cardinals last summer and has shown this year what all the fuss was about.

James Paxton, lhp

Mariners

Paxton didn't sign out of the 2009 draft, then held out until February before signing with the Mainers as their 2010 fourth-rounder. He has shown his potent fastball/curveball combination this season.

Martin Perez, lhp

Perez struggled for the first time in his career last year as a 19-year-old in Double-A, but his return trip has been much more successful and he has flashed his dominant form again.

Julio Teheran, rhp

Triple-A Gwinnett (International)

Colombia

Teheran ranked as the top pitching prospect in the game coming into the season, and he earned his first big league callup in May. It won't be long before he's up in Atlanta permanently.

Arodys Vizcaino, rhp

Vizcaino ranked with Martin Perez and Julio Teheran as the best international amateur prospects signed in 2007. Vizcaino joined the Braves in the Javier Vazquez trade in December 2009.

Wilin  Rosario, c

Rosario was actually having his breakout season last year, but a torn ACL in August cut that short. He has picked up where he left off, though, offering premium tools at the plate and behind it.

Sebastian Valle, c

After three nondescript seasons in the Phillies system, Valle has come on like gangbusters in the last two years, and the Phillies have traded away other catching prospects to clear the way for him.

Yonder Alonso, 1b/of

Alonso continues to prove that he's a hitter, but with Joey Votto entrenched at first base in Cincinnati, he'll have to prove that he can hold down left field in the major leagues to get a full-time job.

Alex Liddi, 3b

Italy

Liddi has gone from being a novelty as the first Italian position player to play organized baseball to putting himself on the brink of taking over at third base in Seattle.

Jefry Marte, 3b

High Class A St. Lucie (Florida State)

After taking two years to get through low Class A, Marte has shown the offensive potential that got him signed in 2007. He's also starting to tap into his raw power.

Francisco Martinez, 3b

Martinez jumped from the Gulf Coast League to high Class A in 2009 and has handled Double-A this season at age 20. He has prototype tools for third base, including a quick bat with power.

Jose Altuve, 2b

Altuve was viewed almost as a curiosity coming into the season at a listed 5-foot-7, but he has shown strong offensive production this season to go along with his standout defense, so he's legit.

Hak-Ju Lee, ss

Lee joined the Rays in the Matt Garza trade with the Cubs in the offseason, and he is putting together the best offensive season of his career to complement his strong defensive skills.

Jurickson Profar, ss

Curacao

Profar has drawn notice since he led Curacao to the 2004 Little League World Series championship, and he has shown this season that it's warranted, with premium defense and hitting skills.

Jonathan  Schoop, ss

Orioles

High Class A Frederick (Carolina)

Curacao

Schoop emerged as a prospect last year and put himself firmly in the Orioles' plans this year by performing with the bat and glove. He has the skills to play second or third base or shortstop.

Chih-Hsien Chiang, of

Red Sox

Taiwan

The Red Sox signed Chiang in 2005, and he did little to stand out in his first five seasons. But his bat really came around this season, as he has shown an ability to hit for both average and power.

Reymond Fuentes, of

Padres

Puerto Rico

Fuentes was part of the Padres' haul in the Adrian Gonzalez trade with the Red Sox in December, and his speed should make him the center fielder of the future in San Diego.

Starling Marte, of

Pirates

Double-A Altoona (Eastern)

Dominican Republic

Marte has the speed and defensive ability to push Andrew McCutchen to an outfield corner when he arrives in Pittsburgh. He just need to continue improving his plate discipline.

Alfredo Silverio, of

Dodgers

Double-A Chattanooga (Southern)

Dominican Republic

Silverio has moved slowly through the Dodgers system since signing in November 2003, but neither he nor the Dodgers gave up and it looks like their patience is paying off this season.

Dayan Viciedo, of

White Sox

Triple-A Charlotte (International)

Cuba

After working on the infield corners in his first two years in the White Sox organization, Viciedo has played right field this year and should be able to stay in the outfield. His bat should play anywhere.
