USA Baseball Adds Koyie Hill To Roster, Madritsch Opts Out

USA Baseball, in coordination with Major League Baseball, made a substitution today to its roster of 30 players that was originally announced Wednesday afternoon.

Mariners lefthander Bobby Madritsch, who pitched for the Texas League-champion San Antonio Missions this year, declined to attend the trials. He was replaced on the roster by Dodgers catcher Koyie Hill. Hill hit a combined .293-3-43 between Double-A Jacksonville and Triple-A Las Vegas this season. The 24-year-old Wichita State alumnus has USA Baseball experience, as he played for the college national team in 1999. Back then, he was a second baseman and third baseman, but the switch-hitter has made a successful transition to catching as a pro.

The Team USA trials roster may add additional players prior to and during the trials process and the final 24-man roster that will travel to Panama. The team will play in the Arizona Fall League for two weeks and could add a player or two from other AFL rosters, and the final roster will be announced Oct. 24.
