AFL Players of the Week

For the week of November 11-17, 2002

Grand Canyon Rafters outfielder Todd Linden (Giants) and righthander Jung Bong (Braves).

Linden hit .500 (12-for-24) with a homer, five RBIs, two walks and five runs scored in seven games during the week. In the Rafters’ 7-2 win over Peoria on Saturday, Linden homered in the ninth to push the game into extra innings, and then drew an intentional walk during a five-run 10th inning that gave Grand Canyon the come-from-behind win. Linden had three hits in the game, a walk and scored three runs. Earlier in the week, Linden went 4-4 with a run scored, three RBIs and a stolen base.

Bong made two starts on the week, improving his record to 3-1. He made his first start the 12th against Mesa in Tucson, throwing six shutout innings for the victory in the Rafters’ 5-0 win. He allowed only three hits in the outing while fanning six. Bong finished the week with a start Sunday, striking out two and allowing only one hit and no runs over four innings in Grand Canyon’s 6-1 victory over Maryvale. Bong currently ranks fifth among Fall League pitchers with a 1.50 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 30 innings pitched.
