|The Rays secured an everyday shortstop in a trade with their in-state rivals, acquiring Yunel Escobar from the Marlins. Tampa Bay surrendered middle infielder Derek Dietrich, a 2010 second-rounder, to Miami. Escobar joins his fourth organization in three years. The Marlins reportedly decided to trade Escobar after he informed them that he wasn't comfortable playing third base, a position switch brought about because the Marlins acquired shortstop Adieny Hechavarria in the same trade that brought Escobar to Miami.

A lot of scouts question where Dietrich will end up defensively, but even those skeptical about his defensive chops are impressed with the bat. He profiles best as an offensive second baseman, where his good hands will be useful and his lack of range will be less of an issue. Dietrich also has enough power to handle a move to third base.
