Brewers Get Burke Badenhop From Rays

The Deal
The Brewers acquired reliever Burke Badenhop from the Rays for raw, 19-year-old Rookie-level right fielder Raul Mondesi Jr. Milwaukee sought bullpen help after its relievers posted the highest ERA (4.46) in the majors last year.

Mondesi, whose father Raul Sr. spent 13 years in the big leagues, is a marginal prospect who hasn't shown much with the bat since signing. He's a .243/.305/.371 hitter over his three minor league seasons, and he led the Pioneer League with 87 strikeouts in 2012. Raul Jr.'s brother Adalberto is a promising shortstop prospect in the Royals organization.

Badenhop throws a sinking fastball in the 89-91 mph range along with an 80-81 slider. His best asset is his control. Of all pitchers with at least 60 innings in 2012, Badenhop allowed the fourth-fewest walks.
