Blue Jays, D-Backs Swap Second Basemen

The Deal
Appropriately, the second waiver trade this August involved two of the game's most active general managers. The Diamondbacks' Kevin Towers hooked up with the Blue Jays' Alex Anthopoulos in a swap of 29-year-old second basemen, both in the midst of poor offensive seasons and both probable free agents in November. Arizona sent Kelly Johnson to Toronto for Aaron Hill and shortstop John McDonald, a strong defensive player who can support or supplant utilityman Willie Bloomquist in Phoenix. (A season-ending injury to Stephen Drew forced Bloomquist into everyday duty.)
