| Fresh off their trade of ace Roy Halladay to the Phillies, the Blue Jays flipped one of the young players they received in that deal for a prospect they valued a bit more. Toronto traded corner outfielder Michael Taylor to the Athletics for Brett Wallace, a corner infielder who has played mostly third base in the minor leagues. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Brett Wallace, 3b Age: 23. Position: 3B (117 G), 1B (14 G). Born: Aug. 26, 1986 in Sonoma, Calif. Ht.: 6-2. Wt.: 205. Bats: L. Throws: R. School: Arizona State. Career Transactions: Selected by Cardinals in first round (13th overall) of 2008 draft; signed July 1, 2008 ... Traded by Cardinals with RHP Clay Mortensen and OF Shane Peterson to Athletics for OF Matt Holliday, July 24, 2009.
Wallace was the centerpiece of the package the A's received when they sent Matt Holliday to the Cardinals before the trade deadline, and now he's on the move for the second time in less than five months. A Pacific-10 Conference triple crown winner during his college career, Wallace's best asset is undoubtedly his natural hitting ability. He has an inside-out stroke and knows how to get in favorable counts where he can do the most damage, giving him 20-home run potential even though he lacks tremendous raw power. The question mark with Wallace has always been defense. His hands and arm strength work at third base, but his lack of range points to an eventual move across the diamond to first. |
