| An injury to Jed Lowrie and ineffective play by veteran Julio Lugo prompted the Red Sox to go outside the organization for help. | Kris Negron, ss Age: 23. Position: SS (76 G), 2B (31 G), CF (4 G), RF (2 G). Born: Feb. 1, 1986 in Willingboro, N.J. Ht.: 6-0. Wt.: 180. Bats: R. Throws: R. School: Cosumnes River (Calif.) CC. Career Transactions: Selected by Red Sox in seventh round of 2006 draft; signed June 9, 2006.
Negron moved back to his amateur position of shortstop this season after recently spending a lot of time at second base. He has swiped 97 bases in four pro seasons, showing his above-average speed, but for a player who doesn't hit for power (.355 career slugging) and isn't a pure shortstop, he comes up a bit short in the hit department. |
