The Padres lost two key outfielders to injury on Sunday, as Milton Bradley injured Mike Cameron's hand when he stepped on it in a near-collision in the outfield, then tore a ligament in his right knee while being restrained during an argument with an umpire. Desperate for outfielders, San Diego acquired Jason Lane from the Astros on Monday in exchange for a player to be named and cash. Update: The trade eventually was resolved with Houston receiving cash considerations. |

| Lane, 30, hit 26 homers in 2005, his lone season as a regular, but lost his regular job because he hasn't produced much since. He has struggled horribly in 2007, batting .178/.257/.349 with eight homers and 27 RBIs in 68 games. He's a decent athlete with enough range to get by in center field and enough arm to handle right. He's making $1.05 million this year and will be arbitration-eligible again afterward. Lane is a career .241/.315/.458 hitter with 61 homers and 189 RBIs in 494 games. |
