Baseball America's Final 2001 College Top 25 June 18, 2001 DURHAM, N.C.After entering regional play and the College World Series as the nation's No. 1 team, Miami finished the year with the top spot in Baseball America's Top 25 college baseball rankings with a clean sweep in Omaha. The Hurricanes, who won their last 17 games, defeated Tennessee twice, Southern California and Stanford for their second national championship in three years, and fourth in program history. Miami won CWS titles in 1982, '85 and '99 previously. The 'Canes have won eight straight games in Omaha with sweeps in their last two titles. For the second straight season, Stanford finished No. 2 in the rankings after losing in the national championship game. Cal State Fullerton, which handed Miami three of its 12 losses on the season, finished third, with Southern California finishing a West Coast threesome at No. 4. Rankings are through the end of the 2001 season and determined by the staff of Baseball America. Records indicated do not include tie games.
