American Legion World Series
Day 2
By John Royster
GAME 13 Lewiston, Idaho 4, Midwest City, Okla. 3 In the first of two suspenseful semifinals, left fielder Jake Rogers singled home two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, breaking a 2-2 tie. The Twins' rally came after two were out and the bases empty. Midwest City answered with a run in the top of the fifth on third baseman Eric Thornton's double, but didn't threaten again until the ninth. In that inning, the Outlaws put runners on first and second with one out, but righthander Joe Broemeling entered the game and struck out the last two batters for a save. Brooklawn, N.J. 10, Omaha 9 Brooklawn erased a sizeable late-innings deficit for the second time in four World Series games, scoring four runs in the bottom of the ninth. Two Omaha errors contributed to the rally, but Brooklawn also had four hits and a sacrifice fly. Brooklawn led 4-1 after the first inning, but Omaha tied the game by the top of the third and took its last lead with three runs in the eighth. That rally came after two were out and nobody on. Shortstop Joe Lamb went 4-for-5 with two runs and an RBI for Brooklawn, and the teams combined for 36 hits, including 13 doubles. Brooklawn and Lewiston, both 4-0 in the World Series, play in the title game at 10 p.m. EDT Tuesday. |
