High School Baseball: Final Top 50

June 14, 2004

Chatsworth repeats as national champion

Chatsworth (Calif.) High School became the first school in the 13-year history of the Baseball America/National High School Baseball Coaches Association poll to win back-to-back national championships. The Chancellors earned all but one first-place vote in the final poll of the year Sunday.

Chatsworth ran the table in 2004, winning all 35 games to extend its winning streak over a two-year period to 50 games. The Chancellors beat San Pedro High 7-1 last Tuesday to win their second consecutive Los Angeles city championship. California is the only state that does not play a state championship.

The only other school to win two national titles is Miami's Westminster Christian High, which won titles in 1992 and 1996.

Baseball America's national high school poll is selected in conjunction with the National High School Baseball Coaches Association. Regular in-season polls, conducted every two weeks, include 25 teams. The final poll, through games of June 13, identifies 50 teams.
