2005 High School Poll Baseball America/National High School Baseball Coaches Association April 4, 2005
DURHAM, N.C.--Russell County High became the third team to rank first this season in the Baseball America/National High School Baseball Coaches Association Top 25 poll. Russell County had outscored its opposition 208-49 and climbed to the top spot after opening the season ranked No. 4. The Warriors had slugged 43 home runs in 18 games, all wins. Monsignor Pace High dropped from No. 1 to No. 6 following consecutive one-run, last-inning losses. Preseason No. 1 Moody High lost for the second time this season to Ray High of Corpus Christi. The Trojans rebounded with a win over Carroll High of Corpus Christi, though fell from No. 3 to No. 9. Nova High made the biggest leap in the latest poll, surging into the top 10 to No. 8 thanks in part to six clubs dropping from the Top 25. Beginning April 17, the poll expands to 50 teams as the country's cold-weather states begin play.
DROPPED OUT: No. 17 Barron Collier HS, Naples, Fla. (12-2); No. 11 Cypress Bay HS, Weston, Fla. (13-3); No. 25 Elk Grove (Calif.) HS (9-3); No. 21 Hudson’s Bay HS, Vancouver, Wash. (2-2); No. 6 Key West (Fla.) HS (13-4); Kingwood HS, Humble, Texas (16-4). |
